FAQs

~ What is the difference between a Marriage Licence and Certificate of Marriage?

The Marriage Licence is the document required in order to be married.  The Certificate of Marriage is legal proof of marriage and required for change of name purposes.  When you purchase your Marriage Licence you will be given an application form to order your Certificate of Marriage.  The certificate is not automatically sent to you, it must be ordered.  Ensure your names on the form are written exactly as on the Marriage Licence.  Approximately a week after the wedding you can mail in or drop off your application to Vital Statistics at 254 Portage Avenue.  It takes a few weeks to receive the certificate depending on the time of year.  Rush service is also available.

~ When should I book Joining Hearts?

You should book as soon as you have decided on a date, even if you haven't booked your venue yet..
Many officiants book up to 1 or 2 years in advance.
Short notice ceremonies can often be accommodated as well.

~ Do you require a deposit?

We do require a 50% at the time of booking for the Platinum, Gold and Silver packages in order to hold the date and time
with the balance due one week before the ceremony.
You may also pay the fee in full at the time of booking if you wish and receive a 10% discount on service amount (discount not applicable any possible travel/mileage fee).

Bronze and Copper packages are payable at time of booking.

~ Are there any other additional fees?

A nominal travel/mileage fee of 50 cents per km from the perimeter to venue (per Google Maps) may be applicable for venues outside the Perimeter.  Applicable to ceremony and rehearsal.

For venues in downtown Winnipeg an nominal fee may be charged for valet service/indoor parking.  Applicable to ceremony and rehearsal.

~ What will Sheri wear?

Sheri will wear conservative, business-style attire, usually black or black with white.
When possible she will also try to co-ordinate with the colour theme.

She also has a cloak she can wear for a more judicial or reverent look if requested.

~ Do we need a formal rehearsal?

Our ceremonies includes a rehearsal or pre-wedding planning meeting.
Many ceremonies do not need a full rehearsal as the format of the ceremony
may be discussed with the couple at a pre-wedding meeting.
Prior to the ceremony on the wedding day Sheri will arrive approximately 20 minutes
to half hour before ceremony time, meet with the couple and their attendants to
inform/remind them of who will walk in when, where to stand, etc.

~ What name do I sign the Marriage Licence with?

You would sign the documents with your name prior to marriage.
